Type 2 diabetes – Participants sought for a study on the effect of footbaths on cardiometabolic health

October 4, 2023

A research team from the Montreal Heart Institute’s ÉPIC center is looking for participants for its research project (MHI #2021-2959).

Project title: Evaluation of a home heat exposure intervention on cardiovascular and metabolic function in adults with type 2 diabetes.

Aim of study: To determine whether the use of a footbath for 12 weeks improves indicators of metabolic and cardiovascular health in people with type 2 diabetes.

Target population: Adults with type 2 diabetes, aged between 45 and 75.

Implication: Participation in this study involves 1 screening visit lasting 90 minutes, 6 follow-up visits lasting 4-8 hours each, and 1 intervention over 12 weeks. At these follow-up visits, we will assess the body’s ability to use and store the sugar and fat contained in a liquid meal, as well as markers of small- and large-vessel health. The intervention consists of using a footbath at home, either hot (42C) or warm (36C), for 45 to 60 minutes 3 to 5 times a week for 12 weeks.
