This March, nutrition is in the spotlight! The theme for this year’s Nutrition Month is “Good for you, and good to eat!”
The origin of Nutrition Month
Nutrition Month has been planned and implemented by Dietitians of Canada for over 30 years. This tradition began in the late 1970s as a “nutrition week” organized by a small group of dietitians. Dietitians in several provinces began planning events and activities in various settings and working with the media. In 1981, the Canadian Dietetic Association (now Dietitians of Canada) and the provincial dietetic associations organized the first National Nutrition Week. The main objective of this event was to raise awareness of the importance of healthy eating and to promote dietitians/nutritionists as the most credible source of food and nutrition information. By the end of the decade, the campaign was changed from nutrition week to nutrition month.
“Good for you, and to your liking!”
“Good for you, and to your liking!” is the theme chosen by Dietitians of Canada this year for Nutrition Month. The purpose of this theme is to highlight the fact that healthy eating can be a different concept for everyone. Culture, culinary traditions, preferences, and nutritional needs all play a role in defining healthy eating. Dietitians/nutritionists can help you find your winning strategy.
