The FreeStyle Libre flash glucose monitoring system is now on the List of exceptional medications covered by Québec’s basic drug insurance plan for glycemia self-monitoring in people with diabetes being treated with insulin injections.
The authorization of payment is for adults aged 18 years and older who have at least 2 years of experience in self-managing their diabetes, who meet the following three criteria:
- intensive insulin therapy
- frequent or severe hypoglycemia problems
- the necessity of glycemia self-monitoring a minimum of eight times per day
The RAMQ authorization form must be completed by the attending physician.
