Used syringes and needles

May 15, 2016

Since last spring, Diabetes Québec has received many messages from people who could no longer get containers to dispose of used syringes and needles from their pharmacy or CLSC. After several attempts, both with the Direction of Public Health and the Ordre des pharmaciens du Québec, we have been informed that changes had been made both in the management of the SIRSAU program and with the container provider. These changes have led to delays in the implementation and delivery of containers to distribution sites, causing shortages in many places. On November 20, 2015, Diabetes Québec participated in a conference call with a representative of the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

Here is the information obtained.
